Protecting the Most Unique Bee Sanctuary in the World
About KIBA
Why do we exist?
We believe Kangaroo Island is a special, pristine place with unique flora and fauna.
We are custodians of the oldest bee sanctuary in the world and responsible for the long-term survival, health, and prosperity of our bees. We are also custodians of their history and purity and have a responsibility to maintain this for future generations.
We believe that constant and evolving threats from pests, diseases and climate change require us all to be vigilant, resourceful, and open to change and new practices.
We recognise that for some of us, bees are our livelihood, while for others it is a hobby.
Regardless of how many hives we have, we believe that the only way to address these threats is to work together as a community.
We believe that in caring and working with our bees we gain knowledge and experience that we are willing to share openly and freely for the good of our community.
In the end, we believe we need to protect our Kangaroo Island Ligurian bees to help them thrive and prosper.
We are the KI Beekeepers Association.
